Employer Partners

Overview

Businesses and industries can partner with CLTCC in many ways. It might be coordinating with the school to train the company’s employees. Employers explain what skills their workers need and CLTCC finds curriculum and faculty to meet that need with a training program. Partnering can mean donating time or money – like Gilchrist’s repurposing of a grant to help CLTCC pay for a truck-driving simulator used to train Gilchrist employees and other students in the CDL program. Maybe partnering for you is serving in an advisory role to help the school meet manufacturer’s needs even better.

Hands On Training Facility

The school opened a brand-new $1 million manufacturing training center facility on the Alexandria campus in November 2015. It features high-tech equipment for instrumentation, robotics, mechatronics and more to offer students hands-on learning.

In addition to the main campus in Alexandria, CLTCC has campuses in Cottonport, Ferriday, Jena, Leesville, Oakdale and Winnfield and also services the Avoyelles Correction Center.

There also is a mock factory at the school to give students a true picture of their future job. It offers the experience of a total production line with the common interfaces students would see in the workplace.

Through C4M, students get a total picture of what manufacturing is, from raw materials to finished product.

Quality of Education

Through C4M, students get a total picture of what manufacturing is, from raw materials to finished product. Then classes touch on skills in machinery, welding, electrical and other manufacturing fields they’ll need to know about. But it’s not just manufacturing. They learn how to be a good employee, with lessons on communication, teamwork and other soft skills, as well as math and physics lessons.

“It gives them a good idea of each step of the process, how it works,” instructor A.H. “Nub” Parker said. “We’re trying to heighten the knowledge and awareness level for new employees.”

Partner Opportunities

Central Louisiana manufacturers already are partnering with CLTCC to produce more skilled workers, sending students to complete C4M and CDL programs, providing grant funds to purchase equipment for such programs or hiring employees and paying them full salaries while in school at CLTCC. They’ve partnered in training programs, donations, advisory roles and even a Manufacturing Expo for students.

Employer partners include AFCO Industries, Baker Manufacturing Inc., Boise Cascade, Cleco, Crest Industries, Dis-Tran, Eclectic Products, Gilchrist Construction, Hayes Manufacturing, Plastipak, Procter & Gamble, RoyOMartin, Union Tank Car Company, Weyerhaeuser, Bechtel, KBR and CB&I.

You can partner, too. Send your employees to customized training for two to five days to learn more on programmable logic controllers. Or become part of the classroom through an operator apprenticeship, where students spend two to three days a week in class at the school and the rest of the week on the job site.
